My interest in kinship and family history began when I wondered why my Great-grandfather was the Grandfather of my cousin who was younger than me.

Most of my research is related to Colonial America and migration to the midwest from 1785 - 1850. I am descended from from John and Priscilla Alden of the Mayflower, and William Henshaw of Leicester, MA is my DAR Patriot. There are some German ancestors who arrived in the Americas pre-Revolutionary war, and some arriving around 1850. Surnames I am currently researching are

  • Eastman (ME, WI)
  • Hovey (OH)
  • Hardesty (OH)
  • Fleming (NJ, IN)
  • Kinney (NY, MI)
  • Powell (IN)
  • Armstrong (NY, OH, MI)
  • Pung (Germany, WI)
  • Mayer (Germany, WI)
  • Arndt (Germany, PA, MI, WI)

I have an undergraduate education in Anthropology from Loyola University Chicago, and a masters degree in Library and Information Science with a certificate in Special Collections from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. My education has furthered my sense of curiosity and deep understanding of research methods which provide the basis for genealogical research. In 2017, I became a Community Representative for the Digital Public Library of America and a member of the DAR, Twenty-First Star Chapter.

As owner of Where The Apple Fell, I provide workshops and classes in genealogy, and am available to present to your group (or individually) throughout the Midwest states and Arizona.
